Physicians did not merely provide medical services during the struggle for the Greek War of Independence. Both in the pre-revolutionary period and throughout the uprising, doctors acted as enlighteners, politicians, organizers of schools, and teachers of the Nation.
This volume presents for the first time the role and decisive contribution of physicians and medical science before, during, and after the War of Liberation, from the early 19th century through the years of Ioannis Kapodistrias.
Drawing on previously unpublished documents and primary sources from the period of the Revolution, Lazaros Vladimiros’ study sheds light on medical developments at the formative moment of modern Greek history.
