Musical event at the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Apollo.

On 9 September 2024, the Municipalities of Antiparos and Paros, following an initiative by the scientific team of the Despotiko excavation (Director: archaeologist Yannis Kouragios), organized— with the support of the Association “Friends of Paros and Antiparos” and in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades—an evening of culture, an Opera Gala, at the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Apollo on the uninhabited island of Despotiko.

During the two-hour concert, held in the presence of hundreds of residents and visitors from the two islands, the distinguished Myrsini Margariti (soprano) and Dimitris Yakas (piano) presented a musical programme featuring masterpieces of classical music as well as works by Greek composers.

The aim of the event was to familiarize the public with the archaeological site and to highlight the importance of its protection and promotion, so that it may be made accessible to the wider public as a visitable archaeological site.
