The Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni is located approximately 15 km west of the city of Komotini. According to tradition, the icon of Panagia Faneromeni preserved at the monastery was discovered around five hundred years ago. The monastery is an important pilgrimage site for the whole of Thrace, and its annual feast day, celebrated on 23 August, has been established as an occasion that brings together both Christians and Muslims.
The monastery faced serious risk during periods of flooding, as it is built at a lower level than the adjacent national road. Athanasios and Marina Martinos responded promptly to the request of the Holy Metropolis of Maroneia and Komotini to find a solution for its protection. As part of the donation, in addition to the construction of a solid enclosure wall compatible with monastic architectural standards, providing protection from flooding, a new main entrance was also erected, designed to function as a bell tower.

DONATION OF THE NON-PROFIT CIVIL COMPANY AEGEAS

  • Construction of the monastery’s enclosing wall.
  • Construction of the main entrance together with a bell tower.
