The Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art in Greece. Built in the 10th and early 11th centuries on the western slopes of Mount Helicon, near Distomo in Boeotia, the monastery is renowned for its exceptional mosaics, marble revetments, and refined architectural design.
The katholikon (main church) and the Theotokos church form a unique monastic complex that reflects the artistic and spiritual flourishing of the Macedonian Renaissance. The monument is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, together with the monasteries of Daphni and Nea Moni of Chios, as a masterpiece of Byzantine art.
