The Zakynthos Museum is housed in an imposing neoclassical building in the main square of Zakynthos Town. It holds one of the most important collections of paintings from the post-Byzantine period.
Its galleries display icons of the Cretan School, “Cretan-Ionian” icons, and works of Ionian naturalism, dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Byzantine and post-Byzantine wall paintings, carved wooden iconostases, ecclesiastical vessels, and sculptures originating from churches on the island that no longer survive are also presented.

On 3 September 2021, two unique self-portraits by the eminent Zakynthian priests, icon painters, and artists Nikolaos Koutouzis and Nikolaos Kantounis were officially presented to the Museum of Solomos and Eminent Zakynthians, as a full donation by Mr Athanasios Martinos.
