National Library of Greece, Athens

The National Library of Greece presented, in the atrium of the 4th floor of its building at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, a major tribute to the multifaceted artistic activity of Markos Kampanis (15 December 2023 – 29 February 2024).
The exhibition brought together paintings, prints, works of ecclesiastical art, and books created by the artist, organized around six major thematic sections. The creative journey of the painter—from the early 1990s, when he first visited Mount Athos, to the present day—unfolds through a variety of media, linking traditional techniques with contemporary artistic tools. From the Athonite print workshops for icons, the so-called stampadourika, to the maps generously available through Google Maps, visitors to the exhibition discovered the artist’s work guided by the very means of artistic expression.
On the occasion of the exhibition, a catalogue was published, edited by Stavros Zoumboulakis. It includes texts by Maria Vassilaki, Dionysis Kapsalis, Giorgos Mylonas, Eirini Orati, Giorgos Triantafyllou, Giorgos Chatzimichalis, Zoltan Someghyi, and Stavros Zoumboulakis. The publication seeks to illuminate various aspects of the painter’s creative work from its beginnings to the present day.
