The parish church of the Transfiguration of the Savior is located in the center of Chora on the island of Psara. It is a three-aisled basilica with a gallery and an octagonal dome, without a narthex.
The church is built over the remains of an Early Christian basilica; however, there are no clear records regarding the date of its original construction. It must be dated prior to 1770, as tradition records that Russian priests officiated there during the Orlov Revolt.
The church was destroyed in 1824 during the Destruction of Psara. It was later rebuilt in 1885 through donations and the personal labor of the inhabitants, as attested by an inscription above the church’s entrance.
