The Church of the Ascension in the central square of Magoula is the metropolitan church of the town. According to local folklore sources, its operation began in 1885, next to the existing post-Byzantine chapel of Saint Demetrios. Both churches are designated monuments protected by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
A characteristic architectural product of its time, the church belongs to the type of the three-aisled longitudinal basilica with a transept.
AIGEAS AMKE initially donated the necessary studies for the restoration of the church, the installation of a new cooling and heating system, and the redevelopment of the square in front of the church, with due respect for the monument’s historic character. The functional upgrading of the surrounding area contributed both to highlighting and preserving the church’s morphology and to transforming it into one of the most vibrant points of the settlement, accessible to all citizens and suitable for hosting events and celebrations.
