On the occasion of the digitization of part of the Historical Archive of Lavrion (IAL–EMEL), the Lavrion Studies Society organized a two-day programme of events at the Ore Dressing Warehouse of the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park (LTCP), on 1 and 2 February 2025.
The digitization was carried out within the framework of the project “Digital Transformation of the Historical Archive of Lavrion of EMEL,” with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Lavrion Studies Society (EMEL), and Aegeas AMKE.
As part of the events, the exhibition “Documents from the Historical Archive of Lavrion of EMEL Meet Digital Storytelling and Historical Knowledge” was inaugurated, and the book “John Edwin Sandys: An English Classical Scholar in Lavrion in 1886,” published by EMEL (2025), was presented.
The exhibition presented authentic archival materials—bound volumes, rare and important 19th-century publications, engineers’ reports, historical documents and printed matter, architectural and mechanical drawings, maps, and photographs—which, combined with contemporary digital storytelling techniques, brought new life to the industrial Lavrion of mining and metallurgy.
