The “Attikon” University General Hospital was established in 2002 on land granted by the Haidari Military Camp (KEDV). The Hospital now houses 18 university clinics of the Athens Medical School, 30 specialised and general nursing units with a total capacity of 645 beds, 6 central laboratories, research laboratories of university clinics, and a fully developed imaging department.
Recognising the multifaceted clinical, research, and scientific work carried out in the Hospital’s clinics, as well as its primary role in meeting the healthcare needs of the densely populated region of Western Attica—and beyond—AIGEA AMKE made a significant donation for the construction of a new chemotherapy building.

DONATION OF THE NON-PROFIT CIVIL COMPANY AEGEAS

  • Construction of a new chemotherapy building.
  • Full medical and hospitality equipment for the new unit.

Construction of a new chemotherapy building for the 2nd Department of Propaedeutic Medicine, University Clinic of the Athens Medical School.

The subject of AIGEA AMKE’s donation was the preparation of the required studies for the construction of a new building to house the Chemotherapy Unit of the 2nd Department of Propaedeutic Medicine, University Clinic of the Athens Medical School, the construction of the building itself, as well as the supply and installation of modern hospitality and medical equipment.
The new single-storey building, covering an area of 850 sq.m., stands out for its contemporary and innovative design, which takes into account not only the medical treatment of patients but also their psychological well-being. At the heart of the new unit is the central chemotherapy area, which accommodates 32 treatment stations. This is a particularly spacious, double-height, open-plan area, with perimeter windows that maximise the use of natural light. The remaining support areas for staff, patients, and their companions are arranged around the central space, making the unit fully independent and fully operational.
The new building was functionally connected to the existing main hospital building, and its design allows for the future spatial expansion of the hospital complex. The surrounding area was also comprehensively redeveloped, including the construction of a new road, wide pavements, accessible routes for persons with disabilities, and landscaped green spaces. The new unit was fully equipped with modern hospitality and electronic equipment, as well as state-of-the-art medical equipment, substantially contributing to the prompt and effective treatment of a large number of patients.
