The Historical Archive “Archbishop Ieronymos II” was inaugurated in Oinofyta, Boeotia, on 15 June, the feast day and name day of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece. The new institution houses archival, photographic, and digital material documenting the life, ministry, and work of the Archbishop, both during his tenure as Metropolitan of Thebes and Livadeia and as Primate of the Church of Greece. It also includes part of his personal library, as well as material donated by the Foundation for Pastoral Training.
Mr Athanasios Martinos underscored the importance of the initiative and thanked all those involved in the project for bringing it to completion within a remarkably short period of time. Representing the Prime Minister, Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Nikolaos Papaioannou attended the inauguration and described the Archive as a centre of historical memory and documentation of particular significance for both the local community and the Church of Greece.
In his address, Archbishop Ieronymos reflected on his deep connection with his birthplace and expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to the creation of the Archive. Following the inauguration ceremony, guests were given a guided tour of the Archive’s facilities, where archival documents, photographs, manuscripts, and digital applications present key aspects of the Archbishop’s ecclesiastical, social, and cultural activity.
The Historical Archive was established through a donation by Athanasios and Marina Martinos, who funded both the construction and the equipment of the building. It operates in conjunction with the Archbishop Ieronymos II Library and the Centre for Ecclesiastical Ministry, forming an integrated hub for research, documentation, and educational activities. The inauguration ceremony was attended by hierarchs, representatives of the State and local government, academics, representatives of various institutions, and a large number of citizens.
