The Alexandra General Hospital of Athens is one of the most historic healthcare institutions in Greece, long associated with the development of obstetrics and gynaecological science in the country. Operating under the 1st Health Region of Attica, the hospital began as the “Alexandra” Maternity Hospital and gradually evolved into a major medical, nursing, educational, and research centre, with a particularly strong presence in the fields of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, and Cardiology.

The hospital was named in honour of Princess Alexandra of Greece and Denmark, daughter of King George I, whose untimely death in 1891 during pregnancy deeply affected Greek society at the time. The establishment of the maternity hospital was closely linked to the need for a modern public institution dedicated to the protection of mother and child, as well as to the training of midwives and medical students of the Medical School of the University of Athens.

Throughout its long history, “Alexandra” has maintained close ties with the university medical community and the advancement of clinical research in Greece, remaining to this day one of the most emblematic public hospitals in the Greek capital.

AIGEAS AMKE proceeded with the donation of equipment for the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Therapeutics Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens at the Alexandra General Hospital of Athens.
