The adjective “polytropos,” which Homer used to describe Odysseus, refers to a person of restless spirit—tireless, resourceful, widely traveled, and accomplished. No more fitting title could have been chosen for the two-volume collective work edited by the students and collaborators of Nikolaos Chr. Stampolidis in his honor.
N. Chr. Stampolidis is a distinguished scholar with a unique ability to explore multiple directions within the ancient world. As a professor at the University of Crete, he generously shared his knowledge, while as a scientist and excavator he became a major source of inspiration for the hundreds of students he taught.
Edited by M. Stefanakis, M. Giannopoulou, and M. Achiola, the two-volume publication was issued by the Mediterranean Archaeological Society in 2023 and includes 76 original scholarly contributions across 1,250 pages. It stands as a modest yet highly significant scholarly tribute from students to their teacher, in recognition of his contribution to archaeology, education, and culture.
The volumes were presented to N. Chr. Stampolidis during a special ceremony held in the auditorium of the Acropolis Museum.
