Ecclesiastical architecture in Greece following the fall of the medieval empire constitutes one of the most striking phenomena of cultural continuity in the nation’s history.
The seventh volume, published in both Greek and English, follows the same framework as the previous ones and is the result of the dedicated work and editorial care primarily of architects. It once again aims to document and present for the first time a small portion of the material scattered throughout the country, as well as to interpret it, within the scope and expertise of each contributor.
Churches in Greece after the Fall, Volume 8 is the last volume edited by Charalambos Bouras (1933–2016) together with his students, Klimis Aslanidis and Stavros Mamaloukos. The series has made a decisive contribution to the documentation of ecclesiastical architecture in Greece, through the publication of numerous studies on individual monuments and monumental complexes.
Similarly, the eighth volume includes studies written mainly by architects, as well as by archaeologists who systematically engage with the study of architecture.
