The Church of the Holy Trinity is situated on a low hill at the site of “Angelisi” in the area of Markopoulo Mesogaias, within a lush green estate. The church has undergone various building phases, the most significant of which dates to the 18th century. In the early 19th century, a small monastery operated around the church, with the monk Dionysios from the Monastery of Penteli.

The church is two-aisled, with two semicircular apses to the east and a narthex to the west. The aisles are covered with barrel vaults, above which rise pitched, tiled roofs, while the narthex is covered by a vault in its northern part and a blind hemispherical dome in its southern part. In the eastern section of the church and in the sanctuary, wall paintings of the 18th century are preserved, associated with the artistic milieu of the Argive painter Georgios Markou.

Due to the effects of time and later interventions, the church exhibited serious structural problems, as well as aesthetic alterations. Recognizing its historical value and its importance to the local community, AEGEAS AMKE undertook the preparation of the necessary studies and its full restoration. During the stabilization and restoration works, a small-scale archaeological investigation was carried out, revealing new evidence concerning the church’s architecture and its building phases. One of these dates back to the Byzantine period and is most evident on the western side of the church, which is constructed according to the cloisonné masonry system.
