The 1st Primary School of Nea Peramos began operating in 1926 to meet the needs of the newly established community of refugees from Peramos in Asia Minor. Since 1964, it has been housed in its current 800 sq.m. building. Today, it operates as a 12-class full-day primary school with an inclusion unit.<\/p>\n\n
Over time, the main school building suffered significant deterioration. It was repaired and renovated in 2008\u20132009; however, in the following decade it developed serious problems, mainly in the roof, due to poor maintenance and the ageing of materials. The building was declared unsafe, and in February 2023 its operation was suspended. The students of five classes were forced to attend remote learning for three months and subsequently to have lessons in prefabricated classrooms. This situation prompted strong reactions from parents, teachers, students, and the local community. <\/p>\n\n
AIGEA AMKE responded immediately to the request of the Municipality of Megara, the Parents and Guardians Association, and the school\u2019s teaching staff by undertaking the preparation of the required structural studies and the implementation of the building\u2019s repair, reinforcement, and restoration works. The project was particularly demanding due to the age of the building, the serious structural adequacy issues it faced, and the fact that the objective of the intervention was to restore the building without causing further damage to its interior. <\/p>\n\n
The reinforcement works focused primarily on strengthening the load-bearing structure (roof slab and perimeter masonry walls), while additional works were also carried out to functionally upgrade the school. The inauguration of the restored and renovated school building took place on 14 September 2024. <\/p>\n\n
