It was closed by Enver Hoxha in 1946 and reopened in 2006. Despite the fall of the communist regime, subsequent governments refused to allow its reopening, arguing that Himara was not considered a minority area.<br\/>It now operates as a Greek\u2013Albanian school under the \u201cOMIROS\u201d programme, funded by the Greek state.
