Founded in 1978, it is now home to sixty nuns. The monastic complex includes the original katholikon, cells, a refectory, auxiliary facilities, workshops, a library, and four chapels.<br\/>The Monastery houses an exact copy of the icon of the \u201cPanagia Tricherousa,\u201d the original of which is kept at the Holy Monastery of Hilandar on Mount Athos and is attributed to Saint John of Damascus. The Monastery holds great significance for the border region of Evros and attracts large numbers of pilgrims each year.
