Until 1971, their feast day was celebrated at the Metropolitan Historic Church of Saint Nicholas, as no church had yet been dedicated to their memory. This absence was recognized by the late Metropolitan of Hydra and Spetses, Ierotheos, who inspired the people of Spetses to begin its construction on a plot traditionally believed to be the site of the New Martyrs\u2019 family home.<br\/>In 1983, the inauguration of the unfinished church was held. Thereafter, construction progressed slowly, until its completion in 2021. Today, it stands as a jewel of the island, and the annual feast on 3 February is regarded as the most important religious celebration of Spetses, honouring its three illustrious sons.     <\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DONATION OF THE NON-PROFIT CIVIL COMPANY AEGEAS<\/h4>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Construction of a marble iconostasis and Holy Altar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction of marble flooring for the Holy Church.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Iconographic decoration, including wall paintings and portable icons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provision of liturgical equipment (sacred vessels and vestments) and furnishings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Renovation of the parish spiritual centre of the Holy Church.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The island takes great pride in the Three New Martyrs\u2014Nicholas, Stamatis, and John\u2014who were martyred on Chios in 1822.
