The Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Chora, also known as \u201cSotira,\u201d is considered one of the most significant on the island.<br\/>Its first construction phase likely dates to the late 16th century, as the founder\u2019s inscription preserved on the lintel of the entrance records its renovation in 1637. The templon and its icons were created during the same period. They bear the inscription of the Cretan painter Parthenios Theperos and the date 1638.<br\/>Since 2010, initiatives by local associations and residents of the island have promoted efforts for the restoration and conservation of the monument. The templon was conserved at the expense of the \u201cAssociation of Kythnians\u201d by the staff of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades.<br\/>AIGEAS AMKE undertook the stabilization and restoration of the church, its functional upgrading (provision of liturgical furnishings and ecclesiastical items, new electrical installation and lighting), and the landscaping of the surrounding area.
