The Holy Church of Saints Anargyroi, located in the settlement of Koumani in the village of Nomitsi, belongs to the architectural type of the single-aisled cross-in-square church with a dome. The apses of the sanctuary are inscribed within the thickness of the eastern wall\u2014an uncommon feature in Byzantine architecture. The bell tower dates to the Byzantine period.At least two building phases have been identified in the monument. The first phase is dated to the late 10th or the course of the 11th century. The transformation of the church into its present domed form appears to have taken place in the late Byzantine period, between the 13th and 14th centuries.The interior is covered with wall paintings belonging to at least three distinct phases (10th\u201311th century, 14th century, and 18th century). The church is considered one of the most beautiful Byzantine chapels situated along the main road axis that, since antiquity, connected Inner with Outer (Messenian) Mani.The passage of time and certain later interventions made necessary the stabilization, restoration, and conservation of the monument. The works were carried out entirely through the donation of AIGEAS AMKE. Following their completion, not only was the church safeguarded, but its overall enhancement was achieved, as the surrounding area was landscaped and the monument was \u201cliberated\u201d from later constructions that had encircled it. <\/p>\n\n
