Photographic research and artistic presentation of the emblematic educational foundations which were operating in the Greek diaspora communities during the latter years of the nineteenth century into the early years of the twentieth. The learning that was cultivated in the Greek communities of the then Ottoman Empire, as continuation of the Greek Enlightenment of the eighteenth century, was taught and disseminated in the schools featured in the album. On travelling to the hearths of Greek populations, both large and small, visitors are awestruck by the number and sophistication of the school buildings, which met the most modern educational specifications of the period and were constructed with funding from members of the community and benefactors of the Nation, with the spiritual guidance of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Aim of this research project is to photographically record educational foundations established by the Greek communities, together with archival material drawn from historical sources. <\/p>\n\n
