\u201cLiterally but also semiotically, the church of Saint Nicholas in Acharnon Street, in the Athenian neighbourhood of Kato Patissia, is the par excellence \u2018Kontoglian\u2019, in the sense that it is the most representative of the manner of the reviver and master painter of the Byzantine style\u201d, states the editor of the volume, Protopresbyter Georgios Antzoulatos, in his preface. The album presents the last work of religious art by Fotis Kontoglou: the wall-paintings and the icons in the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas in Acharnon Street. \u201cThe ensemble of portable icons (1947-1960) and the numerous wall-paintings (1957-1965) reflect the God-sent inspiration of the master teacher from Asia Minor, as these are works of the last and most mature artistic period of his life. The conception of the ideas, the preparation of the drawings and the execution of the depicted divine persons are insufflated with the quintessence of love, study, patience and experience, but mainly with his heartfelt fervour for Orthodoxy\u201d, Father Georgios explains. The album is prefaced by His Beatitude Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Hieronymos II, and includes texts by the Metropolitan of Kastoria Seraphim and the painter of holy images Protopresbyter Stamtios Skliris. <\/p>\n\n
