Palaia Kouteli, built at an altitude of 963 meters, is a village of the former province of Kalavryta and today forms part of the Local Community of Kouteli. Until the 1970s it was the original settlement, before being gradually abandoned for the creation of a new village at a lower elevation.
The Holy Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos was built in 1877. It is a large three-aisled basilica distinguished by its notable iconographic decoration. The tripartite ensemble of the church, the plane tree dominating its courtyard, and the stone vaulted fountain has been designated a protected monument.
Due to serious deterioration caused by underground water, seismic activity, and the roots of the centuries-old plane tree, extensive technical restoration works were carried out on the church.
