The church of Saint Sophia stands in the village of the same name (Agia Sophia) in the district of Kynouria, about twenty kilometres east of Tripolis. The village was first settled in the second half of the nineteenth century and the church dedicated to the memory of Saint Sophia and her three daughters, Faith (Piste), Hope (Elpis) and Love (Agape), must have been built at that time. It is of cross-vaulted type with a high hexagonal dome and a two-storey belltower.
