Europiano: The Megaron at the Pnyx.

The Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) was symbolically “relocated” to the Pnyx Hill for a unique open-air concert on 21 June 2026, the longest day of the year, coinciding with the summer solstice and World Music Day. The event was organised within the framework of the Europiano network, through which Athens joined, for the first time, a number of major European cities in a shared musical celebration of World Music Day centred on performances of iconic piano concertos.

At the same time, eleven concerts from different European countries were screened in the Megaron Garden from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., attracting more than 3,000 visitors throughout the day. The screenings were offered free of charge, allowing audiences to experience a diverse programme of performances from across Europe.

The Greek contribution to the Europiano programme was presented at Pnyx Hill, where conductor Konstantinos Karidis joined forces with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and acclaimed pianist Lukas Sternath in a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, the celebrated “Emperor” Concerto.

The concert was broadcast by ARTE, the Franco-German cultural television network with an international audience, offering Athens and the contemporary Greek cultural landscape exceptional visibility. The image of the city, linked to one of the masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire, travelled across Europe as part of a distinctive cultural event of considerable artistic and symbolic significance.
