The organization of the Scientific Meetings, which began in 1984 through the initiative of local cultural associations in the region, has evolved into a well-established institution and the Society for the Study of Southeastern Attica’s major biennial event.
The Society, based in Kalivia, focuses geographically on the area extending between Mount Hymettus, Mount Penteli, and Cape Sounion. Its purpose is the research and study of every scientific or cultural subject related to the region and its inhabitants, including the collection, documentation, preservation, study, and publication of linguistic, folkloric, historical, archival, and other material, as well as expressions of folk art and tradition.
Kalivia Thorikou, Attica, 17–20 October 2013.
