Holy Church of the Annunciation to the Virgin

The Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos is located in the centre of Kalivia. It is one of the most beautiful and historically significant churches in the area. An earlier 19th-century church of the three-aisled basilica type once stood on the same site.
The present church, designed in the Byzantine style (a three-aisled basilica with a dome), was founded in 1927 based on plans by architect and archaeologist Anastasios Orlandos. It is built of dressed stone, and its interior features remarkable wall paintings distinguished by their vivid colours.
Over time, the building developed significant structural and conservation issues. Its restoration and renovation were completed in 2017 through the donation of Athanasios and Marina Martinos.

DONATION OF THE NON-PROFIT CIVIL COMPANY AEGEAS

• Restoration of the Holy Church, including roof repairs, replacement of the glass panes of the doors and windows, cleaning of the stone surfaces, and repointing of the exterior façades.
• Construction of a new marble solea of the sanctuary.
