The holy church of Saint Demetrios is one of the dozens of small Post-Byzantine churches around Stemnitsa. It stands on a hilltop in the locality of Savala, close to a traditional fountain. A single-aisle basilica with pitched roof, it was built upon the ruins of the homonymous stavropegic monastery that was destroyed by fire in the late eighteenth century, after the Orlov Revolt. Each year on 26 October the people of the area celebrate the feast day of Saint Demetrios.
